Nuremberg Russian Center hold lessons in Russian folk art

12.01.2022

''The World of Gzhel'' art lesson was held at the Saturday school of the Russian Center in Nuremberg.

The children visited a virtual exhibition of folk craftsmen. The dishes and toys were covered with Gzhel blue-blue patterns and flowers on a white background.

Elena Baron, a professional artist and art teacher, told the children about the history of this painting, which was created more than 400 years ago.

The Gzhel craft united workshops located in 30 villages in the Gzhel region, 60 km from Moscow. At the end of the 20th century, the popularity of Gzhel products with cobalt painting reached its prime. Everyone wanted to have at least a few such items in their home collection. Today, local craftsmen continue to develop the traditional production of artistic porcelain.

After Elena Baron's story, the children learned to draw elements of the Gzhel pattern: droplets, borders, nets, twigs, leaves, antennae, flowers. They were able to make a few paintings in the Gzhel style by the end of the lesson.
