A collection of 78 Russian icons is exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery (Florence), Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

Icons were found and acquired by representatives of the Medici and Lorraine dynasties during the 18th and 19th centuries. This is the oldest collection of Russian icons in the world outside of Russia. It was introduced to the visitors of the gallery by its director, Aike Schmidt.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Italy, Sergei Razov, called the permanent exhibition of Russian icons the most important event for the development of cultural dialogue between the two countries.
