Nizhny Novgorod and San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica, have become twin cities, Nizhny Now reports.

The signing ceremony of the corresponding agreement took place on Friday, December 17. It was held online as part of the visit to the region of the head of the Costa Rican diplomatic mission in Russia, Lilliam Rodriguez Jimenez.

The document was signed by the mayor of Nizhny Novgorod, Yuri Shalabaev, and the acting mayor of San Jose, Paula Maria Vargas Ramirez.

According to Shalabayev, the city has carefully prepared for the emergence of a new twin city. One of the first projects will be an online conference with the participation of chambers of commerce and industry.

Interaction in the educational sphere is also essential. Shalabayev assured that the Nizhny Novgorod educational institutions have vast experience in cooperation with foreign educational institutions. More than 200 students from Latin American countries are educated in city universities. In the future, it is planned to hold the Days of Culture of Costa Rica in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The parties also agreed on cooperation in the tourism sector. During the pandemic, virtual tours of museums in both cities are organized.
