The Gamaleya Center has already changed the Sputnik V vaccine to be effective against the omicron strain of coronavirus, Sputnik reports. According to Academician Alexander Gintsburg, who heads the center, the drug is currently in the first stage of clinical trials.

The scientist suggested that the drug may consist of two components. This way, the vaccine will protect not only from the omicron, but also from the delta strain. In this case, a new vaccine development platform should be used. Gintsburg assured that the center had already prepared such a platform.

Gintsburg reminded that it is not clear to this day whether the omicron will be able to supersede the delta. He added that the delta strain is by far the most common.

The classic version of the Sputnik V vaccine provides a wider range of neutralizing antibodies when compared to Pfizer, the scientist concluded.
