An exhibition of Stepan Erzia's works has begun to work in Moscow, The Art Newspaper Russia reports. It is taking place in the Erzia Center.

A collection of unique copies made by the restorer Alexander Tolokin, most of which are casts from the master's works located in South American countries, are exhibited in Moscow. In Russia, these works are practically unknown, many of them are kept in private collections.

The Stepan Erzia International Foundation for the Arts opened a new center in Moscow. Its opening was timed to coincide with the 145th anniversary of the sculptor.

The future world famous sculptor Stepan Nefyodov was born in the Volga province. The pseudonym Erzia is the name of the ethnic group to which he belonged. He began by helping to paint rural churches, then graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. Erzia enjoyed great success in Russia and in European countries. He left his homeland in 1926 and spent almost 25 years in Argentina, before returning to Russia in 1950.
