British auction houses start Russian Week

The week of Russian auctions starts on Monday, November 29, in London, TASS reports. Traditionally, it is held twice a year,  in May-June and November-December. Four auction houses are taking part in the Russian Week: Christie's, Sotheby's, MacDougall's and Bonhams. Their overall revenue may exceed tens of millions of dollars.

Christie's is to hold the first auction. It is expected that almost 190 lots will go under the hammer. Among the most interesting lots are four works by the artist Philip Malyavin. Estimate of his painting "Laughter" depicting Russian peasant women reaches $200,000.

Five paintings by Nicholas Roerich will be also presented at the auction. They all come from the time of his Asian expedition and will be sold separately. The portrait of a Tibetan lama was estimated at almost $100,000. The estimate of the "Depsang Plains" landscape exceeds $105,000. Vladimir Lebedev's "Young woman with bouquet" is estimated at more than $400,000, ''Genoese towers in the Black Sea'' by Ivan Aivazovsky - at $1,2 million. 

The auction at Sotheby's will be held at the next two days. It is going to offer ''Still LifeApples and Eggs'' by Petrov-Vodkin's art estimated at almost $ 5 million. Estimate of Savrasov's ''The Volga near Yurevets" exceeds $1,5 million. Besides art, jewelry, which once belonged to Princess Maria Pavlovna will also go under hammer.
