Memory of great Russian commander Alexander Suvorov honored in Romania

A commemoration event in honor of Alexander Suvorov has taken place in Romania, TASS reports. 

Its participants brought flowers to the monument to the great commander on Wednesday, November 24. Suvorov was born on this day 291 years ago. The monument was installed in the Dumbraveni commune, which is located near Fokshan. It was there that the Russian-Austrian corps under the command of Suvorov defeated the enemy during the Russian-Turkish war. The commander was give the highest award of the Russian Empire for this success - the Order of St. George, 1st degree.

Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmin called this battle a very important event. It contributed to the liberation from the Ottoman yoke, thanks to which Romania was able to acquire statehood. 

According to the local authorities, the ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the monument to the great commander has become a tradition.  The statue of Alexander Suvorov stands on a hill on the right bank of the Rymnik River. The words of the commander are engraved on the pedestal: "We have won a victory here."
