The jewelry that once belonged to the members of the Russian imperial house have been snapped up at Sotheby's auction. The auction took place the day before, November 10, in Geneva, Switzerland, RIA Novosti reports.

The buyer paid almost $900,000 dollars for the brooch and earrings with sapphires and diamonds.

The oval stone in the brooch weighs almost 27 carats. The brand of the jewelry house, which made jewelry for several emperors of Russia, is engraved on it.

The sapphire set previously belonged to the aunt of Nicholas II, Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna. After the October Revolution, she was able to escape from Russia, taking her jewelry with her. British aristocrat Albert Henry Stopford helped to take nearly 250 pieces of jewelry that belonged to the Romanovs out of the country. This list also included the Vladimir tiara. Now it is the property of the British Queen.
