Fyodor Dostoevsky's 200th anniversary celebrated worldwide

The 200th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky is celebrated on November 11. he is the author of the world-famous novels Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Brothers Karamazov and others. 

Dostoevsky was born in Moscow into the family of the head physician of a hospital for the poor, the Kultura.rf website writes. He later went to study at the Engineering School of St. Petersburg. This city later became one of the major characters of his works, as the action of most of the writer's works takes place there.

In addition to writing, Fyodor Dostoevsky published magazines, wrote features and traveled around Europe - he visited Germany, France, England and other countries.

The writer died in 1881, he was buried in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg.

The celebration of the 200th anniversary of Dostoevsky began with the laying of flowers at the grave of the writer in St. Petersburg. The ''Dostoevsky and World Culture'' international exhibition is also planned for this day. Several St. Petersburg theaters will premiere performances based on the writer's works.

In Omsk, where Dostoevsky was serving his sentence for taking part in the Petrashevsky Circle, a traveling exhibition was prepared. It will visit schools, universities and cultural centers in cities and villages of the region.

The Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater has opened a cycle of lectures for students and schoolchildren. The project will help young people learn more about the life and works of Dostoevsky.

The Hanoi branch of the Pushkin Institute of the Russian Language opened an exhibition about Dostoevsky, which presents 12 volumes of translations of the writer's works into Vietnamese. The anniversary evening will be held on November 11 at the Austrian National Library as part of the Vienna Book Fair. Exhibitions about the writer have started in Sofia and Barcelona.
