World Youth Day is celebrated today, on November 10, Parlamentskaya Gazeta writes.
The holiday is timed to coincide with the creation of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY). The new organization was established as part of the World Youth Conference, which took place in London in the fall of 1945.
The forum was initiated by the World Youth Council, which was founded during the Second World War to fight fascism. The forum unites young people regardless of their political views and religious confessions, race, and nationality. More than 80 organizations in almost seventy countries are included in WFDY today.
WFDY fights for peace, youth rights, independence of peoples, international unity of forward-thinking young people, and against colonialism, neocolonialism, fascism and racism. WFDY has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council.
The most famous event organized by the WFYD is the World Festival of Youth and Students (WFYS). In 2017, the forum took place in Sochi. The Russkiy Mir Foundation was a partner of the Directorate of the festival, assisting in attracting foreign participants. With the support of the fund, almost 200 young people from the countries of near and far abroad came to Russia to visit the festival.
