The "Stalingrad in British History" exhibition has kicked off in Coventry, TASS reports. Historical documents from Russian and British archives telling about the Battle of Stalingrad, cooperation between Moscow and London during World War II are exhibited there.

The large stands display unique photographs and documents supplemented by the memories of eyewitnesses. They show how enormous losses were during the liberation of the city.

Much attention is paid to the history of how the British collected and transferred humanitarian aid to the residents of Stalingrad. Many were inspired by Leonid Varlamov's movie Stalingrad. It came out in 1943 and was presented to the head of the British government, Winston Churchill. The film then went on in British movie theaters.

According to Russian Ambassador to Great Britain Andrey Kelin, friendship between the cities of the two countries plays an important role in the development of relations between Russia and Great Britain. In Coventry, Kelin laid wreaths on Volgograd Square to the grave of the victims of the Coventry bombing, met with the City Mayor, John McNicholas, and presented awards to activists of the movement of the sister cities of Russia and Great Britain.
