Moscow and St. Petersburg have received tourism awards at the European stage of the World Travel Awards. The Russian capital was named the best city for tourists, while St. Petersburg was awarded the main prize as the best travel destination for the study of historical heritage. Aeroflot Airlines won the Best European Aviation Brand nomination, TASS reports.

Moscow has left behind London, Rome, Vienna and other popular destinations. In total, the Russian capital was nominated in nine categories.

Among the cities that attract tourists with their historical heritage, St. Petersburg outran Berlin, Athens and other European capitals. It was also named the best destination for a city break.

The organizers of the award highly appreciated the work of the Moscow and St. Petersburg tourism committees on increasing the comfort and safety of tourists.

The World Travel Awards was established in 1993. The jury consists of thousands of tourists and travel industry professionals. The decisive factors for victory are the level of security in the city, the presence of a developed infrastructure and a network of hotels.
