The soloists of the Alexandrov Ensemble performed yesterday at the main square of Belgrade, TASS reports. Legendary songs of the war years, works by contemporary authors and Serbian folk songs sounded from the open-air stage. The audience very warmly welcomed the performers, picking up familiar words.

The concert was organized by the city administration with the participation of the Russian Embassy. The event was timed to coincide with the anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from the Nazis.

During the operation to liberate Belgrade, which ended on October 20, 1944, almost 3,000 soldiers of the People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia and more than 4,000 Soviet soldiers were killed. The memorial to the Liberators of Belgrade, located opposite the New Cemetery near Russian graves is the largest burial in Serbia.

A year ago, Russia presented the Eternal Flame sculpture to the authorities of Belgrade. The eternal flame is located next to the memorial dedicated to the memory of the fighters of the Second World War, in the Park of the Liberators of Belgrade. The sculpture depicts a bronze star, wrapped in a wreath. The author of the work is sculptor Andrey Tyrtyshnikov.
