Russian drama The Parent wins Grand Prix and other awards at NY festival

The Russian film Parent by the St. Petersburg director Vlad Furman has won several major awards at the Chelsea Film Festival (CFF) in New York. The film won Grand Prix Award for Best Picture as well as a few other nominations, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports.

The CFF Film Festival supports aspiring directors and actors.Vlad Furman was named the best director, special prizes went to cameraman Kirill Moshkovich (posthumously) and a group of screenwriters.

Mikhail Porechenkov and Vladislav Bulanov (the director of the film used this pseudonym) and Angelina Strechina won in Best Actor and Best Actress nominations, Maria Shukshina became best supporting actress.

The film was highly praised by an international jury headed by Oscar and Tony laureate John Patrick Shanley. The film tells about a St. Petersburg resident who is trying to save his daughter from drugs.
