The ''Fruitful cooperation. Common medical history of Russia and the Netherlands'' exhibition has been launched online. The exposition is dedicated to the cooperation of Russia and the Netherlands in the development of medicine and medical education in Russia, according to the Russian Embassy in the Netherlands.
Diplomats from the two countries, heads and employees of medical universities in Russia and the Netherlands attended the opening of the exhibition. Russian Ambassador to the Netherlands Alexander Shulgin said that the experience of Holland in the medical sphere interested Peter the Great, who examined the collection of Leiden University during his European tour and bought some of the exhibits. It is noted that the Russian emperor visited the university three times.
The diplomat stressed that Russia is preparing to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Peter I, some of the events will be held in the Netherlands.
The website of the exhibition notes that the cooperation between the two states in the medical field began in the 15th - 16th centuries. Dutch doctors had a significant impact on the development of medicine and medical education in Russia. The first Moscow medical school was founded by Peter the Great together with a Leiden University graduate Nicolaas Bidloo.
It is noted that the exhibition presents rare and sometimes never-before-exhibited objects.
