Russian women's chess team won World Championship

Russian women's national chess team has become the winner of the World Team Championship held in Sitges, Spain. In the final of the championship, the Russians managed to outplay their competitors from India, TASS reports. 

Prior to that, in 2017, the Russian team won the FIDE Grand Prix in Moscow. Two years later, they managed to reach the final of the world's team championship, 

During the group stage, the chess players scored ten points out of ten possible and got into the playoffs from the first place in their group. On the way to the final, the Russian team beat teams from America and Ukraine.

In the final, the Russian national team, which included Alexandra Goryachkina, Alexandra Kosteniuk, Ekaterina Lagno and Alina Kashlinskaya, defeated Indians in two matches, the meetings ended with a score of 2.5: 1.5 and 3: 1.

The women's team world championships are held every two years, the Russians reached the championship finals for the 3rd time in a row and won gold medals twice. In 2019, the team lost in the playoffs to China.
