Works by renowned Russian artist Ilya Repin displayed in Paris

The "To paint the Russian soul" (Peindre l"âme russe) exhibition has kicked off in Paris, RIA Novosti reports. It is the most large-scale Parisian exhibition of works by the great Russian artist Iliya Repin in history.

Russian Ambassador Alexei Meshkov and UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay were among the first guests of the exhibition in the Petit Palais museum. The grand opening is scheduled for October, 5.

More than 100 paintings from the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Finnish Art Museum Ateneum are brought to Paris, including such masterpieces as "Barge Haulers on the Volga" and "Reply of the Zaporozhian Cossacks." They are supplemented by portraits of Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, Modest Mussorgsky, Mikhail Glinka.
 
As Russkiy Mir reported earlier, the ''Collection of Morozovs. Icons of Contemporary Art'' exhibition started on September 21, in Paris. French President Emmanuel Macron was the guest of honor at the opening ceremony.
 
The exhibition of paintings by Ilya Repin will run in Paris until January, 23.
