Pyotr Tchaikovsky's opera Iolanta will premiere at the stage of the Royal Swedish Opera on October, 2, the Smotrim website reports.
The opera is staged by the renowned Russian director Sergei Novikov. Previously, it was staged at the Moscow Helikon-Opera theater.
The choir and orchestras of the Stockholm theater are also involved in the production. The costumes and decorations used in the Swedish Opera came from the Helikon-Opera production.
The Swedish participants in the joint production learned their parts in Russian, Novikov noted.
Iolanta is a lyric opera in one act. It is Tchaikovsky's 11th and last completed opera, written in 1891. The opera is based on a story by the Danish writer Henrik Hertz.
