Russian director Andrei Zaitsev became one of the winners of the Beijing Film Festival, TASS reports. He got the Best Director award for the Blockade Diary.
The plot of the picture is based on the books of Olga Berggolts, Daniil Granin and Ales Adamovich. The authors of the script also used the memories and diaries of the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad. The main character, a young woman, buried her husband in the first siege winter. She wants to say goodbye to her father and goes to him across the city on foot. Olga Ozollapina and Sergey Dreiden played the main roles.
Andrei Zaitsev explained that the work on the film continued for three years. He tried to take to the screen the memories of the inhabitants of besieged Leningrad.
The film has already been screened at the Cairo Film Festival. The Blockade Diary was also presented in Tehran at the Fajr Film Festival. Last year, Blockade Diary won the best film at the Moscow International Film Festival.
The jury of the Golden Eagle award also recognized the movie as the best. It received the prize for the best script, while actress Olga Ozollapina was awarded for the best actress.
The various programs of the Beijing Film Festival included nine works by Russian directors.
