Beijing strongly critisized Washington for imposing new anti-Russian sanctions, the Kommersant newspaper writes. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that they do not support the use of unilateral restrictions covered up with a mythical pretext for protecting human rights.

Earlier, the US Congress intended to introduce new sanctions, justifying its proposals with the scandalous Magnitsky law. The proposed sanctions included the expansion of restrictions on Russia's sovereign debt, personal sanctions against high-ranking officials and new measures against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

In addition, the Congress supported the recommendations on sanctions against 35 Russians. Washington considers them guilty of human rights violations. This list includes Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin, editor-in-chief of RT TV channel Margarita Simonyan, head of Channel One Konstantin Ernst and others.

Russian diplomats called on the American authorities to abandon a rash step on the sanctions' track.
