Film about Russian diplomat Nikolai Ignatiev screened in Bulgaria

The Russian House in Sofia hosted the Bulgarian premiere of the ''The Ignatievs family. 800 years of service to the Fatherland '' documentary. The films tell about the Russian diplomat Nikolai Ignatiev, who did a lot for Bulgaria's independence in the 19th century, while his family members who made a significant contribution to the development of Russia. The premiere also took place in Varna.

Russian Ambassador to Bulgaria Eleonora Mitrofanova, Minister Counselor Philip Voskresensky, Senior Cultural Counselor Alexei Novosyolov and other Russian diplomats, as well as public and cultural figures of Bulgaria attended the premiere.

The Russian ambassador praised the film and expressed hope that the documentary would be shown on Russian TV channels. Stanka Shopova, Chairperson of the Sustainable Development of Bulgaria Foundation, addressed the guests and filmmakers with welcoming words. She stressed that the name of Count Ignatiev is inextricably linked with the history of Bulgaria, and contemporaries are responsible for preserving the memory of the great personalities of the past.

Director, screenwriter and producer Marina Butusova-Stutz presented the film. She came to Bulgaria at the invitation of the Foundation for Sustainable Development of Bulgaria, which became the organizer of the premiere. Former Consul General of Russia Anatoly Shchelkunov acted as the film's scientific consultant.

The documentary shows unique documents from the archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia on the role of the diplomat in solving complex international conflicts both in the Balkans and in relations between Russia and China. Filming took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Amur Region, Khabarovsk Territory, Primorsky Territory, Bulgaria and Germany.
