Plant for Sputnik V production under construction in Argentina

A new plant for the production of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine will soon be opened in Argentina, RIA Novosti reports. Currently, the vaccine is being produced in the Richmond laborator, but core components are exported from Russia. According to Marcelo Figueiras, who heads the company, the new plant will have a full production cycle. He promised that the first doses of the drug would be released a year later. 

The head of the laboratory added that the construction costs amounted to about 85 million dollars. The builders have already started work.

Figueiras plans to visit Russia in two weeks in order to meet with the representatives of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and conclude a long-term agreement. 

The company is going to produce at least 500 million doses annually. The new production will help RDIF with supplies to other countries. it has already received requests from Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, and Paraguay. The expert added that their company was the only vaccine manufacturer in South America.
