Foreign minister heads Russian delegation to UN General Assembly session

The work of the UN 76th General Assembly begins on Tuesday, September 14, TASS reports. 

Traditionally, the main event of the General Assembly will be a high-level week. It kicks off next Monday, September 21. High-ranking politicians and statesmen from different countries are expected to take part in it, including leaders of more than 80 states, almost 45 prime ministers. Heads of foreign affairs agencies from 23 countries will work with them.

The Russian delegation is headed by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He will take part in the General Assembly in person, his speech is scheduled for September, 25. The minister will also hold a number of bilateral meetings with foreign partners.

One of the main topics of the session will be the situation in Afghanistan, where the Taliban movement, whose activities are prohibited on Russian territory, are in power.
