The Garden of Memory event took place on the island of Mauritius, the Russian Embassy writes on its Facebook page.

It took place on the territory of the parish of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the city of Port Louis. The event was timed to coincide with the end of the Second World War. The participants were joined by diplomats, Russian compatriots, members of the Orthodox community.

They honored the memory of those killed on the battlefields and planted citrus trees in the church garden.

Within the framework of the project last year, volunteers planted over 27 million trees in memory of every one who died in the Great Patriotic War. The action covered 50 countries - Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Serbia, Morocco and others. Volunteers hope that it will become a tradition.
