Summer of discovery: Russian classes in Mons

31.08.2021

The Russian Center at Mons University in Belgium hosts a seminar on Russian language and culture for a small group of students every year. In 2020, this event had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This summer, the Russian Center resumed its traditional summer activities.

From August 16 to August 27, seven people studied the Russian language basics. After 20 hours of classes, they can read Russian and make up basic sentences and questions. The classes also provided an opportunity for engaging discussions on Russian culture and history.

The students received a questionnaire at the end of the seminar . They all liked the classes and some of them asked to continue their studies in September.
“I was very happy to resume communication in my father's native language at my own pace and in such a warm ambience,” wrote Veronique Gibert, whose father came to Belgium after the Great Patriotic War.
