Italian director Pietro Marcello will shoot a film based on the Scarlet Sails novel by Alexander Grin, TASS reports. The project will be co-produced by the Russian film company Hype Film.

The working title of the film is Scarlet. Louis Garrel, Noemie Lvovski, Raphael Thierry and other actors are starring in it. The music will be composed by Gabriel Yared, Oscar winner for the soundtrack to The English Patient. Filming has already begun in France. Hype Film notes that Marcello freely interprets the Russian classical work. It will retain its fairytale elements and "dedication to romantic realism," while remaining "true to its unique signature." The action takes place during the world wars, and revolves around a widowed soldier and his daughter.

Pietro Marcello is considered one of the most promising and popular directors in the world. His adaptation of Martin Eden became an important event in the cinema, the leading actor Luca Marinelli was awarded at the Venice Film Festival two years ago.
