International math centers conference takes place in Russia for the first time

Mathematical centers from 25 countries gathered for the first time at the Sirius Educational Center Sochi. The aim of the conference was to strengthen ties between the mathematical centers of the regions of Russia and the world. The conference program included more than 300 scientific reports, which to be presented until  August, 13. 

The Sirius event brought together over 600 Russian mathematicians and their colleagues from 25 countries. Half of participants joined the event online. The program includes more than 300 seminars. The experts will select young professionals under the age of 35 y/o, who will receive International Mathematician Congress participation grant. The Congress will be held in St. Petersburg in 2022. Another award presented at the event is the Prize for Young Mathematicians of Russia is established by the Sirius Educational Center.

The conference was initiated by the rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Viktor Sadovnichy. According to Stanislav Smirnov, the Fields Medal laureate, founder and member of the Sirius Educational Center Board of Trustees, the conference will become traditional. It will unite the mathematical community and contribute to the development of mathematical research in Russia.
