Summer Olympic Games open in Tokyo

The Summer Olympics starts on Friday, July 23, Interfax reports. The games, which will become the 32nd in a row, are hosted by Japan. 

The solemn ceremony will begin at 14:00 Moscow time. The Russian team will come out under the 77th number. Up to 80 Russian athletes will participate in the parade.  Traditionally, the parade is opened by the team of Greece, the team of the host country closes it.

The Olympic Games in Tokyo will be held from July 23 to August 8. Russia is represented by 335 athletes. The Olympic champion in fencing Sofia Velikaya and the Olympic champion in volleyball Maxim Mikhailov will carry the Russian flags during the opening ceremony.

The Olympics in the Japanese capital was supposed to take place in the summer of 2020, but was postponed for a year due to the pandemic. The current tournament will also be held with great restrictions.
