A monument to the Belgian and Soviet members of the Resistance was opened in Liege, according to the website of the Russian Embassy in Belgium.

The opening ceremony of the monument took place last weekend. It was attended by Russian diplomats, representatives of local authorities, patriotic, military memorial and public organizations.

The head of the Russian diplomatic mission, Alexander Tokovinin, praised the efforts of local authorities and activists aimed at preserving the memory of the joint struggle against Nazism. He noted that Belgium did not forget about the decisive contribution that the Soviet troops made to the victory over the Nazis.

Christian Simon, who heads the veteran organization, came up with the idea of erecting the monument. The monument will become a symbol of memory of the heroes of the Resistance.
