A monument desecrated by vandals was restored by locals in Olsztynek (Poland), EADaily reports. The monument commemorates the memory of prisoners of war who died in the Nazi concentration camp Stalag I-B.

The attack took place at the end of June in the town located near the Kaliningrad region. They poured red paint on a stone decorated with the image of a soldier's silhouette. It was supplemented by the inscription ''To the victims of Hitlerism from the youth of Olsztynek. There was a prisoner of war camp in this place in 1939-1945. "

After the act of vandalism became known, the local society "Together for Olsztynek" held a clean-up day at the monument. According to its head Pavel Urbanovich, this is very important for the region. For several evenings, young people cleared the monument and the surrounding area.
