The Day of Remembrance and Sorrow is celebrated on Tuesday, June 22, in Russia and abroad, TASS reports. It is timed to coincide with the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. 80 years have passed since this tragic date.

In many regions, commemorative actions began early at 4 o'clock in the morning - the time when German troops invaded the territory of the Soviet Union. Concerts and rallies are timed to coincide with the date. The reburial of the remains of the soldiers will also take place.

The day before, the Moscow Victory Museum hosted a plenary session of the All-Russian conference entitled "1941. The country is on fire." Historians discussed issues related to the beginning and the first period of the war.

The wreath in honor of the feat of Soviet soldiers will be brought by the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the cemetery in Berlin's Pankow district. Russian diplomats in Berlin will lay flowers at the monument in the Tiergarten park.

Anyone are welcome to join the charitable action of the Memory of Generations Foundation. It conducts The Candle of Memory action online. Everyone can, by paying one ruble, light a virtual candle on the denpamyat.rf website. The collected funds will go to medical care for veterans.

The traditional action took place in the countries of the post-Soviet space. It was organized by the representative offices of Rossotrudnichestvo. In the capitals of the neighboring countries, volunteers lit 1418 candles - according to the number of days of war.
