Russian scientists are studying the effectiveness of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in Rome together with their Italian colleagues at the Spallanzani Institute, RIA Novosti reports.

Professor Francesco Vaia, who heads the the Spallanzani Institute, says that the researchers aim to find out whether the Russian drug can protect against different strains of coronavirus.

The Gamalei Russian Center and the Spallanzani Italian Institute of Infectious Diseases signed the cooperation agreement in April.

Previously, specialists from the Spallanzani Institute recognized the drug as effective and safe. The institute has been treating and researching the disease caused by the new coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.
