Euro 2020: St. Petersburg welcomes football fans from all over the world

The European Football Championship starts on Friday, June 11, TASS reports. It was planned to be held a year ago, but restrictions aimed at countering the spread of coronavirus infection forced the tournament to be postponed to a later time. This happened for the1st time in the history of the championship, which turns 60 years old.

In honor of the anniversary, it was decided to change the format of the tournament and hold competitions in more than 20 countries.

EURO-2020 kicks off in the Italian capital. The national teams of Italy and Turkey will meet in Rome tonight.

24 national teams are taking part in it. They were divided into six groups. Russian football players are playing with the Belgian team tonight. The next game with the Finnish national team is scheduled for June 16.

The Russians will then travel to Copenhagen, where they will meet with the Danes. 

St. Petersburg will also host three Group E games, in which the Polish, Slovak and Swedish teams will play. In addition, the group stage rivals of the Russian national team - Finnish and Belgian teams - will meet in St. Petersburg as well.

One of the quarterfinal matches is scheduled in St. Petersburg, it will take place on July 2.
