Experts have completed general measurements and ground survey of the destroyed Arc de Triomphe in ancient Palmyra, TASS reports.

According to Dmitry Medyantsev, who heads the Stone Center Association of Russian stone industry enterprises and is the project manager, the preparatory stage of the next expedition has now begun. Its participants will dismantle the remaining rubble, conduct a thorough inventory of the remaining fragments of the unique historical monument. They will be scanned and entered into the database. The next stage of work will be to recreate the arch in electronic form. This will reveal all the missing pieces.

Dmitry Medyantsev added that the work will take place under the supervision of sappers, since the militants could leave explosives under the rubble.

The expedition will begin work soon at the request of the Syrian authorities.

In their work, Russian specialists will use the technology with the help of which they will be able to transfer the ornament of the ancient Syrian masters on the restored fragments.

Aaccording to Sergei Titlinov, who holds the post of executive director of the Palmyra Restoration Fund, archaeologists must carry out research work before restoring the Arc de Triomphe. Then the restorers will work, who will also be engaged in research. Only after that, taking into account their results, the restoration project will start.
