175th anniversary of jeweler Carl Fabergé celebrated worldwide

The legendary jeweler Carl Fabergé 175 years anniversary is celebrated on Sunday, May 30, Kultura.rf reports.

Carl Fabergé was born in St. Petersburg. He studied in Germany and France, traveled all over Europe, where he studied the art of working as jewelers. At home, Carl Faberge worked for free as a restorer in the Hermitage.

Fabergé began running his company in 1872. He took over the jewelry he inherited and raised it to unprecedented heights. He was approached by the royal courts of Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Spain, and Great Britain.

At one of the exhibitions, Fabergé products attracted the attention of the imperial couple Alexander III and Maria Feodorovna. The jeweler was appointed Supplier to the Imperial Court Read. Faberge made the famous Easter eggs for the Empress. 

After the October Revolution, the House of Fabergé had to cease production. The new Communist government destroyed the firm and executed the Romanovs, his main clients Carl Faberge was forced to leave the homeland, and died in Lausanne two years later. His grave is located on the French Cote d'Azur - in Cannes.

Today, the Russian Post has released an envelope and a postage stamp is dedicated to the jeweler's anniversary. A special ceremony dedicated to presentation of Fabergé brand is planned to be held with the participation of the Fabergé Museum, which opened almost 10 years ago in St. Petersburg. There are 9 Easter eggs created by the master for the last two Russian emperors in the museum collection.

Imperial Mint, with the participation of the Fabergé Museum, will issue several collectible medals timed to coincide with the anniversary date.

Days of Fabergé have opened also in Irkutsk. The program includes meetings with Christie’s auction house consultant, an exhibition and a round table. Another exhibition dedicated to the jeweler's anniversary is being held in Simferopol.
