French feature wins main prize of Tsiolkovsky Film Festival

The Grand Prix of the Tsiolkovsky Film Festival went to Proxima - a film by the French director Alice Vinokur, TASS reports. The main character of the film is the French astronaut Sara Loro, who dreamed of flying into space from an early age and is preparing to go to the ISS while training in Russia.

The Wandering Land by the Chinese director Frant Kuo was named the best feature film. The fantastic film grossed about 700 million dollars at the box office, becoming the 3rd highest-grossing film in China in history.

The fantastic thriller Sputnik by the Russian director Yegor Abramenko was recognized as the best full-length film. The work of the Russian Anastasia Shchuplova Morpho was named the best short film.

The special prize of the Roscosmos state corporation was awarded to The Observer directed by Dmitry Semenov.

The film festival of films was hosted by Kaluga, where one of the founders of rocketry, the founder of space science, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, was born. Kinoforum  became the 2nd in a row. The opening ceremony was timed to coincide with the Cosmonautics Day. This year the festival is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the first manned flight into space. The festival combined two formats: online and offline, which made it possible to comply with health safety rules and attract a large audience.

According to the organizers, they received more than 800 applications. Eight feature films, about 20 documentaries and about 25 short films were selected from them. In addition to space powers, including Russia and the United States, Mexican, Kyrgyz, Kenyan directors and representatives of other countries sent their works.
