Parishioners of the Roman Catholic and Evangelical Lutheran Churches celebrate Easter on Sunday, April 4, RIA Novosti reports.

The Day of the Resurrection of Christ is established in honor of the main event for Christians. According to the Gospel, Christ was crucified on Mount Calvary near the walls of Jerusalem. Then his body was buried in a cave by the closest disciples. On the third day he was resurrected.

Catholic churches in the Russian capital did not close on Easter. Nevertheless, the unfavorable epidemiological situation forced some adjustments to be made in the conduct of the festive divine service. It was decided to abandon some elements of the service. In particular, there will be no ritual of washing the feet and some other traditions, including kissing the cross. On Good Friday, believers were advised to supplement the universal prayer with a petition "for the plague-ridden."

The church is confident that the epidemiological situation has changed for the better over the past year. Last year, services in almost all parishes were held without the participation of the believers.

Today, all the churches of the Archdiocese are open, and services are held according to the usual schedule, in compliance with the necessary safety standards.
