India approves emergency use of Sputnik V

The emergency use of the Russian Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine has been approved in India, Interfax writes. The relevant decision was made by the Safety Committee of the Medicines Regulator.

Local media reports that the vaccine is the 3rd approved for use. Prior to that, the country was allowed to use Covishield, it is made in India using the technologies of the AstraZeneca company. The topical vaccine Covaxin has also been approved.

One of the country's largest biopharmaceutical companies, Dr. Reddy's, is partnering with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to release Sputnik V for use in India and other countries.

Today, India is the 2nd largest coronavirus case in the world. Over the past day, almost 170,000 cases of the disease have been recorded in the country, more than 900 people have died.
