About 4,500 applications were submitted to the Andrey Stenin photojournalism competition, RIA Novosti reports. The competition covers five continents and 70 countries. By tradition, the start of accepting applications is timed to coincide with the birthday of the photographer who died in 2014 during the hostilities in the Donbass. The competition is being held for the 7th time, annually thousands of photographers from dozens of countries take part in it.

Most of the participants in the competition were Indian photographers. Their number has increased by almost half compared to last season. And the number of Russian photographers has also increased by 20%. They shared the first place with the representatives of India.

Photojournalists from Iran, Bangladesh, Italy and China were also among the leaders. Behind them were the representatives of Spain, Brazil and France. The top-10 was closed by German and Mexican photographers, who shared the last, 10th place.

Next month, an international jury will begin selecting the best works. The shortlist will be announced in early summer. The award ceremony will take place in September in Moscow.
