Russian universities are highly respected by applicants from abroad, according to the rectors of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) and the Higher School of Economics (HSE) Oleg Yastrebov and Yaroslav Kuzminov. According to them, the number of those who were not afraid of distance learning and started their studies in Russia has not decreased, RIA Novosti reports.

According to Yaroslav Kuzminov, a significant decline in foreign students was expected due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, there were many restrictions, including students studying remotely. However, the HSE Rector added, this did not happen. On the contrary, the university enrolled 20% more foreign students than a year earlier.

Yaroslav Kuzminov expressed confidence that the quality of admission has become higher in all higher educational institutions of the country. He considers the forced transition to online education for primary and secondary schoolchildren, and not for high school students, who studied a lot on their own even before the pandemic, as an alarming factor.

According to the rector of RUDN University Oleg Yastrebov, the number of international students increased by almost 9% compared to 2019.
