The Indian-Russian Historical Society will unite historians of the two countries and everyone who is interested in the ties between the two countries in the field of history and culture. The beginning of the work of the new public organization was discussed within the framework of a webinar dedicated to the anniversary of the trip of Prince Alexei Saltykov to India. The traveler hit the road 180 years ago.
The creation of a representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in India and the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Trivandrum were initiated, the website of the RCSC in New Delhi reports. The speakers noted that the visit of the Russian prince to India was an important event for relations between the two countries. The prince was not just a diplomat, but also a highly educated person, traveled a lot, collected antiquities and was engaged in fine arts. He left travel notes and many paintings that preserved his romantic view of India.
The forum participants noted that Prince Saltykov made a special contribution to providing the whole world with a reliable picture of the life of society during colonial India.
