German President urges to maintain ties with Russia

President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke out against severing ties with Russia. The President acknowledged that over the past two decades, the West and the East have broken many bridges. He stressed that Russia and Western countries are responsible for peace in Europe, TASS reports.

Steinmeier shared his views on relations with Moscow during the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations online conference. The German President called the phase in relations between the two countries alarming, especially during the crisis period. Mr. Steinmeier recalled that relations between Moscow and Berlin have a past and a future.

The President noted that over the past 20 years, Western and Eastern countries have destroyed many bridges that connected them. At the same time, he noted the importance of maintaining ties with Russia.
