Unique historical treasures kept in the collections of the Hermitage are presented at a new exhibition, which began working in St. Petersburg. The exposition is complemented by jewelry made by the Cartier jewelry company, RIA Novosti reports.

The opening ceremony of the "Cartier: Continuing the History. Masterpieces of Decorative and Applied Art of the Hermitage and the Jewelry Heritage of the House of Cartier" exhibition is timed to the anniversary of a large-scale project being implemented by the Hermitage and Cartier. The joint work has been going on for five years. French and Russian specialists are engaged in the restoration of masterpieces of decorative and applied art. During this time, five unique monuments have been restored.

According to Mikhail Piotrovsky, General Director of the Hermitage, there has never been such an exhibition before. He called the idea of combining historical jewels and works from the Cartier collection in one exhibition extraordinary.

The exposition, which is located in the Picket Hall of the Hermitage, brings together more than 30 jewelry from the historical collection of the jewelry house and restored museum jewelry. One can see a fragrance made of gold. He came to St. Petersburg in the first half of the 18th century. The vessel is adorned with diamonds, rubies and emeralds. Previously, it was in the treasury of the Great Mughals.

At the exhibition, it is complemented by Cartier jewelry with oriental motives. Among them is an Indian-style necklace. It consists of five pearl strands, on which are strung nearly 20 ruby and diamond plaques. A crystal lamp created by Arab craftsmen about 1,000 years ago is also on the display. During the Renaissance it was adorned by jewelers from Italy.

Another exhibit was the field marshal's baton of the Russian Emperor Alexander II. It was created in the last third of the 19th century, and the restoration was completed two years ago. It is finished with enamels, diamonds and emeralds.
