"Dear Comrades!" by Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky was included in the short list of candidates for the Oscar, RIA Novosti reports. It is nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film.

Applications for participation in the prestigious competition were received from more than 90 countries. 15 films made it to the final. The Russian film will compete with features representing Denmark, France, Czech Republic, Romania, Tunisia, Norway, Mexico, Cote d'Ivoire, Guatemala, Iran and other countries.

This Oscar season will be its 93rd. It was planned that the award ceremony will take place at the end of February. Restrictions aimed at combating the spread of coronavirus infection forced it to be postponed to a later date. The nominees will be announced on March 15, and the award ceremony will take place on April 25.

Konchalovsky made a picture based on real events in 1962, in the center of the plot is a strike at the Novocherkassk plant, which ended with the introduction of an army into the city. Actress Yulia Vysotskaya played the main character, party committee worker Lyudmila, who is looking for her lost daughter. Russian viewers were able to see the film on the big screen in November last year.

The film entered the top 5 best films in a foreign language, the list was compiled by the US National Council of Film Critics. The film has already won Russian and international awards. In January, Andrei Konchalovsky received the Russian Golden Eagle award as the best director of the year.

In addition, another Russian film is nominated for the award. Viktor Kosakovsky's film Gunda was shortlisted in the category "Best documentary feature".
