Orthodox believers in the Dominican Republic received their temple, the Thomas magazine writes. The community of the Russian Church Abroad has been operating in the city of Bavaro for ten years. All these years, the parishioners have been holding services at one of the believer's, who has allocated a spacious hall for this in his house.

The consecration ceremony of the new church took place a week ago; it was dedicated to Seraphim of Sarov. Priest Nenad Flora came to Bavaro from the United States. He has Serbian roots and his wife is Dominican.

The first Orthodox temple in the Dominican Republic was consecrated more than a decade ago. A church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God appeared in Puerto Plata in 2008. Since then, Orthodox communities have sprung up in six Dominican cities.

Today, most of the Orthodox believers in the Dominican Republic are immigrants from the territory of the Soviet Union. They were joined by immigrants from Serbia, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria. There are also Dominicans who study the Russian language and get acquainted with Orthodoxy at the Russian-Dominican Center for Science and Culture. It works at a church in Puerto Plata.
