An international conference dedicated to the centenary of the Russian Exodus took place in Croatia, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports. The organizer was the Russian House Society, which operates in the city of Rijeka. Assistance was provided by Natalia Marchelya, a representative of the Russian national minority in Primorsko-Goranskaya County.

The forum was called “100 years of the Russian Exodus and the arrival in the Croatian Primorye”. Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, it was conducted online.

The conference participants were joined by public figures, politicians, historians not only from Croatia, but also from Turkey, Austria, Russia, and the USA. Of particular interest was the video messages of the descendants of Russian emigrants living in Primorye.

According to the Russian ambassador Andrei Nesterenko, despite the fact that a hundred years have passed since the beginning of the Russian Exodus, interest in this topic remains high. The diplomat recalled that emigrants from Russia made a great contribution not only to the development of science and education in the country, but also to the formation of the state. Croatia was formed several years before the Russian Exodus as a result of the First World War.

The Russians arrived in Croatian Primorye by sea from the Crimea, through Constantinople. More than 6,500 people disembarked from two ships in the port of Bakar.
