The treasure with silver coins and two gold rings, which had lain in the ground for almost 1,000 years and could have belonged to the daughter of the Kiev prince Svyatopolk Izyaslavich, was discovered by archaeologists near the Polish city of Kalisz, the Pobeda RF website reports.

The excavations were carried out by specialists from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnologists of the Polish Academy of Sciences, who decided to check local legends about the treasure. During the excavations, a vessel with 6,500 silver coins in linen bags was discovered.

The version that the treasure could belong to the Russian princess arose after the discovery of two wedding rings, one of which had an inscription in Cyrillic: "Lord, help your maid Maria."

Scientists suggest that the coins and rings found were part of the dowry received by Maria. The historical events of 1145-1446, which made the situation dangerous for Maria's husband, probably prompted to bury the valuable property in her land. The version can be confirmed in the course of the examination of the finds, which is being carried out at the moment.
