Lomonosov Moscow State University took 1st place in the ranking of the best universities in developing countries in Europe and Central Asia according to the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). 121 Russian universities were included in the ranking of 400 universities, with Russian universities occupying half of the top 10. The compilers of the rating noted that the study proved Russia's "indisputable leadership" in the region, TASS reports.

MSU has held the leading position in the QS ranking for years since the start of the study in 2014. St. Petersburg State University (3rd place), and the Novosibirsk State University (5th place) are also among the leaders.

The Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) improved its position in comparison with the previous year, it moved up from 11th to 9th place. According to the rating, 17 Russian universities were included in the rating for the first time, and 38 were able to rise higher than a year earlier.

Ben Souter, director of the QS analytical center, called the achievements of Russian universities impressive, noting the effectiveness of the work that Russian universities are undertaking "to develop their competitive advantages."
