A photo exhibition timed to coincide with the anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War began to work in Nanjing, China, TASS reports. It tells about the role of the Soviet Union in the fight against Nazi Germany and the Chinese people's war against the Japanese invaders. The exposition is housed in the Nanjing Memorial Museum of Pilots Who Died During the Anti-Japanese War of 1937-1945. It features unique historical photographs that capture key episodes of the Second World War.

According to Alexander Shmanevsky, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Shanghai, the peoples of the former Soviet Union highly appreciate the role that China played in World War II. The diplomat called the battle that China had to wage on the Far Eastern borders as a huge strategic support. This war wore down the forces of the aggressor. In the summer of 1945, Moscow came to the aid of Beijing, defeating the Kwantung Army.

The opening of the exhibition was also timed to commemorate the victims of the Nanjing massacre, the Japanese massacre of civilians in Nanking. It happened at the end of 1937. The Russian diplomat once again recalled how important it is to preserve the memory of the victims of that war for future generations. Only having learned the lessons of tragedies well can be sure that they will not be repeated in the future, the Russian consul stressed.

The photo exhibition will run until the new year, the organizer is the Russian Consulate General in Shanghai with the assistance of the city authorities.
