The Conference movie wins two awards at Cairo Film Festival

The Russian film received two awards at once at the international film festival, which took place in the capital of Egypt, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes.

The results of the film forum, which Cairo has been hosting for almost 50 years, were summed up the day before, on December 10. The current festival has become the 42nd in a row. The competition program included a dozen or so films. Films from Egypt, Great Britain, Mexico, Japan, Palestine, China, Canada and other countries competed for the victory.

Russia was represented by the Conference by the young director Ivan Tverdovsky. The film is based on the history of the terrorist attack on Dubrovka. The jury headed by Alexander Sokurov named Ivan Tverdovsky the best director. And the leading actress Natalia Pavlenkova became the best actress.

Two more Russian movies - The Blockade Diary by Andrey Zaitsev and Kurchatov by Alexander Korolev were included in the special programs.

The festival paid tribute to the skill of the St.Petersburg director Alexander Sokurov by showing two of his films: The Russian Ark and The Sun.
